Protect Your Ride Before the First Snowfall Hits
Nova Scotia winters are harsh. Protect your vehicle, your family, and your wallet with this 5-point preventative checklist. Don't wait until the roads are icy!
1. Get Dedicated Winter Tires 🌨️
- The Rule: If the temperature is consistently below , your all-seasons are compromised.
- Action: Install winter tires for superior grip, braking, and stability on ice and in deep slush.
2. Test Your Battery 🔋
- The Threat: Cold weather demands more power from your battery but reduces its capacity.
- Action: Book a battery health test at Bruce Ford. Replace any weak battery with a reliable unit before you get stranded.
3. Check Wipers & Fluid 💧
- The Goal: Maximize visibility against road salt spray and freezing rain.
- Action: Install winter wiper blades and top up with -40 degrees rated washer fluid.
4. Verify Antifreeze Levels 🌡️
- The Threat: A lack of antifreeze can cause serious—and expensive—engine damage if the coolant freezes.
- Action: Have our technicians ensure your coolant is mixed at the proper concentration for deep-freeze protection.
5. Build a Roadside Kit 🛠️
- The Essentials: Keep a heavy blanket, jumper cables, a flashlight, and tire changing tools (spare tire, jack, lug wrench) in your trunk at all times. FOR WINTER, some good additional items to have on hand would be an ice scraper/snow brush, small shovel, and some extra warm blankets.
