April 14 2014, Justin Barker
Since being fully redesigned, the 2014 Ford Focus continues to maintain an attractive image. Its stylish appearance mixed with an aggressive attitude is sure to please the crowds. On the inside, the new Focus is a comfortable and well-equipped vehicle that brings a jolt of driving fun to the compact car segment. And consumers looking for the next level of performance will not be disappointed with the Focus ST. They may, in fact, enjoy it a little too much.
The 2014 Ford Focus features sport cloth seats, along with a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob on certain models. There is also an available rear spoiler for those that favour the look. One can also select the Titanium trim with leather upholstery and 18-inch wheels as a step up to the already stylish Focus. Either way, the 2014 Focus looks and feels great.
When taking your seat behind the wheel, the Ford Focus provides a refined and quiet interior, with a variety of interesting options. Regardless of the trim, buyers can enjoy the basic setup to the additional infotainment goodies like MyFord Touch, HD Radio, in-car Wi-Fi access and so on.
If you are wondering about safety, the 2014 Focus is equipped with six airbags, anti-lock brakes, stability control and electronic traction. The Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded the Focus with the TOP SAFETY PICK status. The vehicle received a perfect five-star Overall Score, along with a five-star for the side impact test, and four for the frontal impact.
As for driving behaviour, the 2014 Ford Focus combines efficiency with driving fun. The base model is powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine. It generates 160-horsepower and 146 pound-feet of torque, mated to a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed PowerShift dual-clutch automatic transmission.
It should satisfy most, but for those hungry for something more, there is always the ST trim. Under the hood, the Focus ST offers top performance with a 2.0-litre turbocharged EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine. It is estimated to reach 100 kilometres per hour in 6.5 seconds.
In terms of consumption, the Focus SE sedan with Super Fuel Economy (SFE) is rated at 7.2 litres per 100 kilometres for city driving, and 6.1 on the highway. The ST offers an average fuel consumption of 8.2 L/100km in the city, and 7.6 L/100km on the highway. Buyers can also select the Focus Electric for an even more eco-friendly ride.
