2014 Ford Fiesta Hatchback – A stylish, sporty and dynamic little subcompact
May 14 2014, Justin Barker
Ford has managed to create an interesting little hatchback. The 2014 Ford Fiesta 5-door is a stylish, fun-to-drive, and fuel efficient vehicle. With a range of flashy to more subdued paint colours, a welcoming cabin, and luxury features to enjoy, consumers may want to book their road test as soon as possible.
On the outside, buyers will enjoy the sleek, sporty look of the new Fiesta hatchback. The modifications for the 2014 model year have given the Fiesta an edgier appearance. The grille, for example, is one item among several others to note. Consumers may appreciate the styling treatment it received, making it visibly more aggressive than the 2013 model.
Also, depending on the trim level, the 2014 Ford Fiesta comes available with a black or chrome beltline, a rear decklid spoiler, and an optional lower door stripe graphic. Solar-tinted glass and a rear windshield wiper, among others, are standard on all trims.
However, and regardless of the model style (4-door or 5-door), the Fiesta offers S, SE and Titanium levels. The more performance-oriented ST trim, on the other hand, is only available in hatchback trim, and will blow drivers away with its performance and handling attributes. All together, the base MSRP ranges from $13,664 to $26,164.
The standard engine found on the first three trims is a 1.6-litre inline-4, coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission. The PowerShift 6-speed automatic with SelectShift is optional for those that prefer this type of transmission. Consumers can expect their model to be equipped with a standard front-wheel drive system.
As for the ST trim, buyers interested in this model should note the tagline on the Ford Canada website, that reads, “It’s not a car for the timid.” The ST offers a step up in engine power and handling. It comes equipped with a 1.6-litre Turbocharged Direct Injection EcoBoost inline-4 engine. Mated to a 6-speed manual transmission, this engine produces 197-horsepower, and 202 pounds per feet of torque. The ST essentially generates 77 more horsepower than the engine found under the hood of the other Fiesta hatchback models.
Other features to look for on the 2014 Ford Fiesta ST are a sport-tuned suspension, an ST-unique exterior and interior styling, and 17-inch wheels.
Inside the Fiesta hatchback, the S trim comes with cloth front bucket bolster seats, with a 60/40 split for the rear bench. The SE offers an embossed seat design to the front bucket seats, and the Titanium version will include a unique sport cloth for the front seats. With the ST, it’s a grade up with Recaro partial leather-trimmed seats.
Other standard or optional features, depending on the trim, include heated front seats, voice-activated SYNC with MyFord Touch, automatic climate control, navigation system, push-start button and cruise control. An AM/FM/Stereo with CD/MP3 capability and satellite radio are also among the various features to equip your subcompact with.
The 2014 Ford Fiesta 5-door is said to be quite fuel-efficient as well. Buyers can look forward to a consumption rating of 7.0 litres per 100 kilometres in the city, and 5.0 liter per 100 kilometers on the highway, based on the S Hatch trim mated to the automatic transmission. For the consumers that are eager to test the Fiesta ST, the vehicle will offer 7.8 L/100km for the city, and 5.6 for the highway.
Ford has created a dynamic little car that is stylish, fun and fuel-efficient. The many features, options and packages are intriguing as well, making this 2014 Ford Fiesta hatchback a vehicle to seriously consider.
