For a sport utility vehicle that is more versatile and practical than any sedan, the smooth-riding 2014 Ford Edge deserves some attention. With a quiet and comfortable cabin, the choice between a V-6 and more fuel-efficient Ecoboost 4-cylinder engine, and MyFord Touch connectivity, booking a road test is the only logical option.

Those who have had the opportunity to drive a new Ford vehicle know that the term “convenience” brings new meaning to the automaker’s voice-activated technology for communications, entertainment and information – also known as SYNC with MyFord Touch. 

One can also appreciate the option of a more fuel-efficient engine offered on the 2014 Edge SUV. The 2.0-litre EcoBoost inline-4 turbocharged, direct-injection engine is available on the SE, SEL and Limited trims, with a fuel economy rating of 9.9/6.6 litres per 100 kilometres (city/highway). Coupled to a 6-speed automatic, consumers can expect the engine to generate 240 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque. 

All three models can also be equipped with a 3.5-litre V6 engine, coupled to a 6-speed SelecShift (for manual-type shifting) automatic. Ford’s all-wheel drive system is also optional for those that choose the SEL or Limited models. Owners of the new 2014 Edge may also find that it offers secure handling and precise steering, and while driving the SUV, we advise you to pay attention to the quietness of the interior. 

There’s more too! The Sport trim provides a higher degree of responsiveness, and comes standard with AWD. Buyers will also find a powerful 3.7-litre V6 engine under the hood of this particular model. The engine produces 305 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque, and is paired to a 6-speed automatic with SelectShift and paddle shifters. This 2014 Edge also comes with a sport-tuned suspension, and 22-inch aluminum wheels. 

Another reason to consider the Sport model is for the flat-folding front passenger seat that is optional on the SEL trim. This is a feature that often comes in handy, and is not offered on all SUVs. The EasyFold release for the rear seat is also offered on the SEL, Limited and Sport, and of course all versions of the 2014 Ford Edge include 60/40 flat-folding rear seats. Buyers will surely find the vehicle’s versatility to be quite practical. 

Other tempting features include driver’s seat memory, heated front seats, a 10-way power-adjustable driver and front passenger seat, and leather-trimmed seats, available depending on the model. The leather-wrapped steering wheel with cruise control, audio and 5-way controls are also worth noting, and a rearview camera, a memory feature for the exterior mirrors, remote start, power liftgate, and Ford’s blind spot system with cross-traffic alert are other elements worth discussing with your Bruce Ford dealer.
